SEAT AND CUPRA SEE DOUBLE AT SCOTTISH CAR OF THE YEAR AWARDS

  • SEAT Tarraco wins Crossover of the Year
  • CUPRA Ateca wins Sportscar of the Year
  • Annual awards celebrates best cars in Scotland as voted for by the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers
  • SEAT Tarraco is priced from £28,230 OTR, CUPRA Ateca from £36,695 OTR

Milton Keynes, 04/11/19 – SEAT and CUPRA collected an award each at Scottish Car of the Year on Friday night, picking up Crossover of the Year for Tarraco and Sportscar of the Year for CUPRA Ateca.

In Edinburgh, judges made up of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers picked the seven-seat Tarraco ahead of its competitors thanks to its value for money proposition, spaciousness and driving capabilities. CUPRA Ateca was crowned for its powerful engine coupled with a smooth ride and a practical but sumptuous interior with a price tag far lower than its competitors.

Richard Harrison, Managing Director, SEAT UK, said: “To win two awards at Scottish Car of the Year 2019 is a great achievement. With Tarraco being our newest model it‘s fantastic to see it being recognised by Scottish media who rate it so highly as an overall package despite strong competition. The CUPRA Ateca has won a number of awards since launching late last year which is testament to its engineering, desirability and proven record as an exceptional mid-sized SUV.”

John Murdoch, President of the Association of Scottish Motoring Writers, said: “Crossovers have to live up to their name to deliver the best of all worlds and the SEAT Tarraco does this with style. It handles seven passengers in comfort, makes light work of every type of road and is enjoyable to drive. On top of this, it's cost-effective to run and own and our judges were bowled over by the quality and equipment that come as standard.

The performance car is evolving and the CUPRA Ateca shows just how radical it can be. Here's a car with the pace to see off hot hatches and outhandle cars costing much more, yet it's also a practical family crossover when you need to be sensible. We also love the way it looks, as well as the superb fit and finish of this first model from the CUPRA label.”

Both models receive free metallic paint as standard, whilst Full Link technology, blind spot monitor, automatic cruise control and three-zone climate control are all available throughout SEAT’s generous specification package across its trim levels.
