The CUPRA committee takes shape

Martorell, 23-01-2019 - CUPRA continues to forge its own path since it launched as a new brand in February 2018. CUPRA, with its distinct identity, created to captivate the most demanding motoring enthusiasts, is still moving ahead at full steam almost a year after launching.

SEAT executive Vice-president for Sales and Marketing Wayne Griffiths has also been named Chief Executive Officer of CUPRA. Griffiths will guide the brand’s team working to bring its identity of exclusivity, sophistication and performance to a unique audience of car lovers.

Chaired by SEAT President Luca de Meo, the other four members of the Board of Directors of CUPRA include SEAT Vice-president for Finance Holger Kintscher; SEAT Vice-president for R&D Dr. Matthias Rabe; SEAT Vice-president for legal Services and Good Governance Luis Comas; and SEAT Vice-president for Sales and Marketing Wayne Griffiths.

Wayne Griffiths emphasised that, “CUPRA is synonymous with sophistication and exclusivity; a brand created by car lovers and those who feel passionately about the design, sportiness and excellent performance of vehicles.

“CUPRA’s response is exceeding all of our expectations and we want to continue consolidating this great brand, which is winning over the most demanding car enthusiasts. Now is the time to go full throttle with CUPRA.”

It has not taken long for CUPRA’s results to prove highly successful since its creation. Sales in 2018  went up by 40% compared to last year, reaching 14,400 units sold.

Griffiths added that, “these results are a clear reflection of the brand’s popularity in the market. Our goal is to double sales in the next three to five years.”

The brand recently unveiled its first model, the CUPRA Ateca, which flawlessly expresses the brand values. This vehicle was created by passionate engineers and designers and developed by those who appreciate fine detailing, sophistication and sporty performance.

The CUPRA Ateca is a powerful, sporty SUV that is unparalleled in its segment and perfectly aligned with customer needs. The brand already has dedicated space in carefully selected SEAT dealerships across Europe where customers can become familiar with both the new model and the CUPRA universe that the brand stands for.

As it has consolidated its organisational structure, CUPRA is set to become a separate organisation which will be strengthened by investing in brand positioning and hiring dedicated staff. Moreover, the brand has outlined its own dealer network, which has started marketing the CUPRA Ateca, and plans to expand its product range onwards.
